Herringbone Backsplash Fav's

We all know that herringbone is a classic pattern that has emerged as a very strong design trend but is it going away soon? My answer is no and here is why...

The trend in kitchen design is to have free standing hoods and also more open shelving incorporated into the cabinetry. With these two elements that leaves a bit more room to do something interesting with a tile backsplash. It used to be we used 4 x 4's and maybe turned them on the diagonal, but that trend is long gone. What people want instead is a design statement to be made in the kitchen. The two best ways to accomplish this is with an amazing countertop or an amazing backsplash. These are just a few of my favorites. Are you ready to think about updating your backsplash?

Quartz is the New Granite

Granite countertops seem to be all the rage these days but I am here to tell you there is a better material on the market and it is here to stay!

Quartz is the leader in durability and flexibility. Unlike Granite which has to be re-sealed once a year, Quartz never has to be sealed and has very little maintenance. Quartz is a man-made stone that uses 75% recycled materials. The stone is also nonporous and nonabsorbent making it the perfect material for food preparation areas. Quartz is also a great option because it is very uniform so you don't have to worry about any imperfections or long veins that could be present in granite. In terms of pricing, Quartz usually starts at a level 6 granite price point so there is a bit of premium for the product but you can’t beat it’s benefits in comparison! Cambria, one of the leading manufacturers of quartz, has recently released a “jumbo” size slab measuring 65.5” by 132” which means fewer seams and better color matching. With all this in mind, it’s time to build that giant island you have always wanted with the perfect quartz countertop as the finishing touch!
