Cross Over to the Dark Side

One of the design trends that has become very popular this year is a moody and dark color palette. We have seen through the 2017 paint colors from Behr, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore that the darker jewel tones are making a comeback. When it comes to moody and deep paint colors, you can’t beat a rich black.

The key to having an onyx color on the walls is to break it up with light and bright colors around it. Whites and linens look amazing next to black. Choose a space that has a lot of windows to allow plenty of natural light to enter the room. If you are worried about using a dark color for the whole room, just paint it on an accent wall or above wainscoting. You can even stain your shiplap black to add some drama to a powder room. Built-ins look amazing painted in a black lacquered look as well. This effect really makes the content of your shelves pop. Black is a neutral color so as far as I’m concerned, there is no need to be afraid of the dark!

Black Beauty

What is it about a piece of furniture painted black? I love using touches of black in many different ways, but one of my favorites is to incorporate black in a cabinet.

A free standing cabinet is one of the most practical pieces you could ever purchase. It's functional, adds immediate scale to any room and can also be used to display your collectibles.
In the kitchen it's serves as an added piece of cabinetry where you can add some personality and store some of your dish or glassware. In a foyer, with an extraordinary high ceiling, it can help add scale and bring the ceiling down. Standing in the dining room or holding towels in a master bathroom, the possibilities are endless. So when you are thinking about purchasing a piece of furniture for your space, consider choosing an amazing black beauty.
