A Design Detail Overlooked
One design detail often overlooked by many is choosing a rug for your kitchen. When I say rug... I'm not describing small rugs that are often found in a big box store. I'm also not suggesting that you put an 8 x 10 rug in your space either. I'm merely suggesting that we often overlook a great design opportunity when we don't add this layer to our space.
One thing we have come to expect in our kitchen space is the fact that we rarely have any wall space leftover. In fact, in most kitchens there often is not room for any wall art. My point is to challenge you to think about adding color, texture, warmth and design to your kitchen. One great way to accomplish this is to add a rug. It's important to realize that the size of your rug is obviously dictated by your layout, but in most kitchens a runner or smaller 3 x 5 foot rug can easily be incorporated. Runners are not just for hallways. They are particularly a great choice for galley style kitchens and also for kitchens that have a big island. You can use two runners to frame out the island with pattern and color. Now let's go rug shopping!
